5 Kamloops Boat Repairs Worth Addressing Before the Season Ends

Boat problems often start small: a bilge pump that's a little slow, a soft spot on the deck, a throttle cable that sticks before it loosens up. It's easy to let these things slide when the boat's running and the water's warm. But there are certain repairs that are important to address right away, otherwise they’ll be more of an inconvenience (and often more of a cost!) down the line.

5 Boat Repairs To Handle Right Away

  1. Bilge Pump

A pump that's sluggish or inconsistent isn't doing the job it should be. Fortunately, replacing it when it's showing signs of wear is a straightforward fix. Dealing with water ingress because it failed completely is a different story.

  1. Deck Soft Spots

Soft spots usually start as a small patch of flex underfoot and expand as moisture works into the core material beneath the fibreglass. Catching them early typically means a contained repair. Left too long, the damaged area grows, and so does the job.

  1. Throttle and Steering Cables

Stiffness or a slight lag in response is the early signal that your cables are getting close to the end of their service life. Replacing them when they're showing wear is a routine job. A cable failure out on the water isn't.

  1. Hull Fittings and Through-Hulls

Fittings corrode, and hoses soften over time, particularly in boats that see a lot of use or spend time in variable temperatures. A visual inspection once or twice a season doesn't take long and can catch a problem while it's still manageable.

  1. Engine Cooling

Engine cooling is worth monitoring throughout the season, not just at spring prep time. Watch for overheating, check your coolant levels, and have the thermostat and heat exchanger inspected if anything seems off.
